MALAFOR is an abbreviation of polish “Małe laboratorium formy”, which literally means “Small form laboratory”.  It is Agata Kulik-Pomorska and Paweł Pomorski’s studio, that is famous thanks to its environmental friendly and easy to dismantle projects. MALAFOR above all is playing with the convention of products, is changing their image and the conception, and even giving new functionalities.

Studio was established in 2004. MALAFOR is looking for new uses for the commonly known materials. Other  Project are changing its context or human behavior convention, like In „Blow sofa” product. “Blow Sofa”, is made from recycled paper and which makes it easy to transport. Blow sofa received Red Dott Award in 2012.

MALAFOR won numerous competitions and awards, such as:

2006 |  competition for young European designers’ Inspired by Cologne – The Show of Design Talents “, Cologne, Germany
2006 |  “Nagoya Design Do!” competition, Japan
2006 |  competition “Targetti Light Art Award” – 1-st prize for “Multicube”, Florence, Italy
2005 |  Prodeco competition, organized by the magazine Elle Decoration (Seat “Trunk”)
2004 | competition for products and projects for the disabled, Handitec, 9-th European exhibition dedicated to the disabled and rehabilitation, Paris, France
2003 | “Young Package 2003″ competition organized by the International Fair of Packaging Embax-Print (3-rd place in the category of “Young Designer” for container “Paco”)

MALFOR was also participating  in various design exhibitions such as 2011 Unpolished 6 Salone del Mobile in Milan or 2010 Polish pavilion at Expo in Shanghai.

The most recognizable product of MALFOR is Trunk. It is a seat made of piece of oak in stainless steel cover. This metal cover gives an impression of a mirror reflecting of the surrounding in which the trunk stays. It has a handle allowing you to take it wherever you like without making any fuss about it.

Bolo Acoustic Men (photo. press materials)

Bolo Acoustic Men is very visually attractive hanging, quadraphonic loudspeaker, that reminds soap bubbles. Speakers are placed all around the Bolo Acoustic Men, so the sound waves travel in every direction

Multicube 1 (photo. press materials)

Next Multicube project 1 won the first prize in 2006 in the category sculpture in the Targetti Light Art Competition in Florence, Italy. Multicube 1 is a two sequence light sculpture made from 1728 LEDs. The diodes are connected with each other creating a three dimensional cube structure.

Extreme Blow Sofa  is made of DAKRON sailcloth, commonly used in yacht sail production. Those seats are suitable for outdoor use and are resistant to changing weather conditions.

Thanks to MALAFOR the shovel received a new life. Second Life Shovel, that will be pounded into the ground become a seat.  Second life series was created in response to the question of how tools can receive an additional feature?

Activ Basket (photo. press materials)

Activ basket is a shopping basket designed for disabled people moving on a wheelchair. By attaching “Activ Basket” to the wheelchair, the user has both hands free, which gives great comfort in comparison with holding the traditional shopping basket. In 2012 “Activ Basket” won the IF Design Award.

News-table caught my attention. It is a coffee table that was created from connected pipes. It Has also magazine storage function. News-table has been published in the book “Do It Yourself Furniture” by Christopher Stuart,  Laurence King Publishing.
